RIP - Sepember 24th 2004

Telinda was born at Southern Hold during the present Pass, to two loving parents and was joined some two turns or so later by her brother Mardin. Telinda's mother, Marda, was the Journeywoman Healer for the Hold and her father, Telin, was, the local handyman. Mardin, was her constant and faithful playmate, the bouncy, fun filled one of the two, whereas Telinda was the more serious, even somewhat studious, one of the two children. They filled their days with harper lessons, bugging their parents about different parts of their trade, and trailing around after Telin's parents, Masin and Delin, that also lived at the Hold.

At seven turns, Marda was promoted to Master and asked to take up duties at Fort Healer Hall as Apprentice Master. After careful consideration she decided to move her small family north and concentrate on her craft, and spend what time she could with her family. Telin became the Hall's handyman, and life was a mixture of strange smells, apprentices and running around after her mother carrying hides. Mardin turned out to be the healer though, joining the craft as soon as he was able. Telinda, on the other hand, seemed to have developed a natural ability to organize people and things, and spent much of her time annoying, or perhaps learning, from the Hall's Headwoman. She did study with the apprentices, but despite what her mother wished for her daughter, Telinda just couldn't quite manage.

When her grandparents took ill with firehead, it was Telinda, as the only uncrafted one of the family, that headed back to the south to tend them through their recovery. Many a day was spent washing out headcloths, sweltering in the heat, but until they were up and walking around again, Telinda essentially sacrificed her life. Their recovery left her in somewhat of a quandary. She'd missed the south, dreadfully, and decided that she should stay. After a couple of turns at the Hold, studying again under their Headwoman as her assistant, and reaching the age when she really should do something, Telinda made the decision that would eventually alter her life and applied for the job of Headwoman at Southern Weyr.

Headwoman for about a turn, Telinda was surprised that one day, whilst bustling around at her normal duties, a brown dragon, Jaoth, was paying her rather more attention than was warranted. J'cob, the brown's rider, asked her to stand for the clutch currently on Southern Weyr's stands, Rnayth and Vyrranth's clutch. A little take aback, Telinda said yes, believing it her duty to serve her Weyr in whatever capacity she needed to. She, after eventually relaxing and returning to her childhood days, enjoyed her time as a candidate and was rumoured to be involved in several pranks -- including sticking down nearly everything in the Weyrhall! It was during this time that she first met K'laarn, Rnayth, the sire's rider. He rather rudely demanded a kiss from her, actually doing the deed, but Telinda showed him right, slapping him a good one across the cheek as soon as he let her go! Bronzeriders! Huh!

All the dragons impressed, and Telinda and her friend, Cerri, walked away and back to their lives and jobs. Saddened, and confused, she was often found conversing with the Weyrleaders about how she should actually cope, but eventually it worked out and made her rather strong respect of Riders stronger still. In fact, so much did her respect increase, that for a long time, she rarely let herself be idle, more often than not immersing herself in the effective running of the Weyr. Eventually, K'laarn, who'd eventually after their initial misunderstanding, had become a good friend of hers, managed to kick her out of this mood, convincing her to cheer up and making more time for herself. The arrival of her cousin, Lydia, from the Northern continent also aided this. Lydia remembered the childish nickname that drove Telinda insane and was never remiss in calling her that -- Tellie Wellie was heard all over the Weyr for some months!!

Strict, sometimes considered grouchy, Telinda took her duties exceptionally seriously, and would never shirk at confronting riders on a regular basis if she felt that they deserved it. The phrase 'could get blood from a stone' was one used frequently about her during the period she was Headwoman -- no-one got to weasel out of their duties when she was around. In fact many of the candidates searched for Weyrwoman Eliora's gold Maristh's clutch found this out, often the hard way.

Some turns after the first search, Telinda was once again searched. However, she refused, preferring instead to keep the Weyr running smoothly when half her staff had been asked to stand. A number of factors, which she'd not discuss with anyone, not even her closest friends, aided her decision, but mainly she felt such a responsibility she just couldn't accept.

Indeed, the Weyr did continue to run smoothly, even after the hatching, everything ran like a well oiled machine. One of the more memorable moments during this time, was Lydia giving birth to a son, Calid. Telinda was often called on to sit with the baby, and then with the child, finding her love of children growing but, for the moment content with helping to care for the little boy.

Things do change though, and some promises get you in deep water! One such pledge to K'shan, Rider of blue Lillith, a close friend who had just died of some wasting sickness, prompted her to say 'yes' to Minna and Green Asimirth when, searching for candidates for the clutches on Honshu's sands, they asked her to stand. Haven, rider of Brown Pendrath, had her own role to play in this -- she'd found a hidden note, along with a stash of fine Benden red, and made sure in her own way that Telinda couldn't say no.

Her time at Honshu was spent making friends with the other candidates, getting to know the layout of a somewhat strange, and sometimes rather cold, Weyr, and readying herself for a hatching where, for once, she wasn't in charge of anything! Hatching day came and went, and again she walked away empty handed, but glad to be returning home.

However, returning, she found she'd been replaced as Headwoman by Arras. Knowing that Southern needed a Headwoman, and knowing that she wasn't around to fulfil it during her time at Honshu, Telinda still felt somewhat displaced and a little lost. She contented herself by doing odd jobs around the Weyr, spending her spare time watching the dragonhealers of the Weyr, learning what she could. An off hand, derogatory comment by M'ren, rider of Green Hexenth, upset her enough to leave the Weyr temporarily, but on the other hand, gave her an opportunity, or rather more accurately an excuse, for an impromptu visit to her grandparents at the Hold. Enjoying the time once more with her family, and visiting Lydia and Calid who'd moved there during Telinda's time away, she eventually returned to the Weyr to help Triania with a Ball planned to celebrate the upcoming clutching.

Life continued in its own little quirky ways, well quirky by most standards that is. Candidates started arriving in droves for the upcoming hatching: Hilo, the assistant steward was searched; as was the seamstress Jerrika. Declan, a Seacraft Apprentice; Judith and Kaleum, Journeywoman and Apprentice Harpers; Atanna, a Minecraft Apprentice; Chasity and Kyleen, Apprentice and Journeywoman Healers; Amalthea and Kellan, Southern Hold residents; Jeanne, a Weaver Apprentice; Carlina, a Journeyman Smith and Echo, an Apprentice Starsmith; were also searched for Revarth and Maristh's clutch. Many, many people started filling up the candidate barracks, and setting off pranks all over the Weyr.

On one day, whilst the candidates were still being brought in, Telinda was sat in the Weyrhall talking to S'ton, the Weylingmaster for the upcoming clutch. Asked to step outside, and believing that the two were heading north to find some wine for the upcoming hatching, Telinda found S'ton's Bronze Llanth paying her more attention than was necessary for a plain greeting

Telinda found herself saying 'yes' to standing for the hatching -- it was either that or prove to Zrellyn, who'd just been asked the same question, that she was a coward and there was no way she'd do that, not in a million turns! The animosity that had already formed between the two grew through their candidacy with each being the butt of each others 'jokes'. Nearing the time to stand out on the sands, Telinda found herself coloured blue and unable to wash the colour out of hair or skin, but responded to Zrellyn with a cot stuck with a dozen or more feathers, to which he was allergic! Revenge is so sweet! Rainy season swamped the Southern peninsula with its usual downpour, creating puddles and rivers where none had formed before. Even sitting outside in this rain, and trying scrubbing her skin off, failed to remove the blue dye that she was now stuck with, and she ended up standing as Southern's first blue candidate and not from the cold either!

With the other candidates, Telinda tried to dodge as many of the hatchlings as possible, which considering the rain, pouring down on the sands, and steam, curling up from them, was nigh on impossible. Even spotting hatchlings in this weather was just not going to happen. Dodge the shapes, the noises, and move when someone told you too, was all that any of them could do that day!

In fact she hardly noticed the large hatchling that was splashing her way through every puddle on the sands until she stepped in front of her and gently asked her mind to mind if everything was so much fun! Telinda had impressed! Not only that, but Tiarnath was a beautiful Champagne and Pearl Gold!

Other matches on the sand that day were Amalthea and Tarnished Scotch Green Kilaranth, Chasity and Satin Chardonnay Green Jezarath, D'clan (Declan) and Glittering Bourbon Bronze Werenth, Echo and Sparkling Water Blue Firenth, Jeanne and Stunning Cider Green Zarynth, K'lan (Kellan) and Stalwart Rum Brown Xaalth, Kaleum and Pewtered Vodka Blue Nevorth, Kyleen and Creme de Minte Green Lucienth and Z'lyn (Zrellyn) and Polished Cocoa Bronze Helth. Oh yes, he got a bronze!!

Slowly coming to the realisation what a Gold dragon actually meant responsibility wise, Telinda struggled through Weyrlinghood. Things were so vastly different that what she'd expected, or anticipated. Lessons were harder, everything needed doing twice as good, and Tiarnath, well, she just wanted to play!!

She constantly avoided the topic of flights, and not only that, she found that not only do riders feel the pain of their dragons, but also it worked vice versa. Logic, not a very strong point in this point of her life, dictated to Telinda that if she bruised herself, letting Tiarnath mirror the pain, it'd put a stop to their flight training.

Suspicions over multiple injuries accumulated though and were finally discovered when Haven confronted Telinda. A frank talk of what actually would happen quickly prompted her to get her butt into gear, and finish up their training.

She nonetheless would never do anything to harm Tiarnath, the two forming an interesting partnership from the start -- Telinda's seriousness and Tiarnath's ability to always find anything a game mixing uniquely in some odd synergy. Even the gift of a crossbow, from Remarra, Gold Hannenth's rider, didn't quell the two's enthusiasm, both learning quickly to shoot on the move, eventually outstripping even Remarra's deft ability.

Also, during Weyrlinghood, both K'laarn and Telinda stopped lying over their feelings for each other. Well it had been nearly five turns! Talking to each other, afraid possibly of losing one another for good now that they both had responsibilities -- K'laarn as a Wingleader at Honshu, Telinda as Junior Werywoman at Southern -- they admitted that they were indeed in love with each other! Not the easiest of relationships with both in different Weyrs, they nonetheless decided what they had was worth working for.

Approaching her third turn, Tiarnath must have decided that Telinda needed some spice in her life! The first sign came when Telinda started complaining of a persistent headache. Nothing could shift it. Then, for no apparent reason, the goldrider started acting like her whole attitude had changed -- eyeing up anything that was human and snuggling with other riders! Even in full view of K'laarn! Yes, Tiarnath was due to rise, loosing some people bets who thought Maristh might be due next.

She was caught by Brown Inyanth, Alinor of Honshu's lifemate, annoying the already frustrated K'laarn even more. Telinda tried making up, since they'd had a disagreement some days earlier, with a gift of an earring, but it didn't go quite as she'd planned. It fact it got a little worse with K'laarn's bronze flying Zale's green Savanath that very same night she tried to patch things up.

Tiarnath's clutching was somewhat unusual, as only can be expected of this gold. She clutched not in the hatching caverns of the Weyr, oh no, she had to be different and choose the warm sands of the beach by the lake to lay them. Not boring you see, and there's no way she wanted to be bored! Due to the protectiveness of all the Weyr's dragons that slept on the beach and helped to guard the eggs, they all hatched.

There were many happy new pairs on the sands that day, including Deianeira and Disheveled Pea Green Arenth, Elny and Awkward Ugly Brown Noeth, Ephyra and Dainty Debutante Green Ygrath, Kytiara and Vain Unclothed Blue Belenth, Liwellan and Charming Diminutive Green Dovath, N'all (Niall) and Magic Lamp Bronze Ceruth, Rose and Beautiful Sleepy Green Ialyth, S'aun (Shaun) and Clever Booted BlueTarvoth, T'san (Tesan) and Wishing-Well Green Kievath, and Tr'bor (Trabor) and Greedy Canine Brown Uarth.

Shortly after the hatching K'laarn and Haven took Juliana, a daughter of K'laarn's from when he lived at Southern before he impressed, and Telinda hunting, intending to teach them both how to shoot a bow and arrow. Trouble arose when K'laarn developed an allergic reaction to one of the plants, nearly killing him were it not for the quick action of Haven, and also of Tiarnath who was left to calm the troubled Rnayth. Eventually he recovered, and somehow during this course of healing K'laarn and Telinda decided to Weyrmate, even though they still lived at different Weyrs. Soon after, in the midst of recovery, K'laarn asked for a transfer, and shortly after moved into Telinda's cottage.

Tiarnath rose to mate again, this time, to both K'laarn and Telinda's delight, she was caught by Rnayth. Telinda kept a close eye on the gold this time, vowing that as soon as she started to become egg heavy she'd spend every moment with her to stop her from clutching on the beach or some other Faranth-forsaken place! Indeed, she was nearly thwarted, but Tiarnath's clutch was safely ensconced on Southern's Hatching Grounds, much to Tiarnath's disgust. << It's so boring! >> she'd constantly remind Telinda.

The eggs hatched on a rather dark night, and not just any dark night. Unfortunately a landslide at the cave where glows come from, turned the entire hatching into a thing of shadows and not a lot else. The dragonets were not to be stopped, despite the sad illumination, and impressions were made, including Ysanne and Walks in Beauty Green Beith, T'dru (Tandrum) and The Day is Dark Bronze DuirathAdrian and Red, Red Rose Green Faeth, Kinoa and Rivulet to the Sea Green Luiseth, Shasta and The One Landscape Brown Muinyth, J'rel (J'rel) and Take this Kiss Brown Nionth, A'dreas (Andreas) and the Lamp is Shattered Bronze Quirath, K'yam (Khyam) and Long Afternoon Green Ruisth, Shadara and What Can Ail Thee Green Saith and Nerian and Shining on the Sea Blue Tinneth.

Shortly after the clutch had hatched, and much to Telinda's surprise, she found that she was about seven months pregnant. Unable to believe her turn of luck, but worried that the child was so small, she spent her every waking moment making sure she did everything correctly, and eventually gave birth to a baby boy whom they named Telaarn.

Things continued, as they will, Maristh and Hannenth rising, and introducing, from Maristh's last clutch, a new gold for Southern -- Jeuneth, Joslyn's lifemate. Off being a new mother, Telinda tried to spend time with the new weyrlings, and did to some extent, though Tiarnath was out there constantly, trying to get them all into trouble!

Shortly after Joslyn and Jeuneth graduated, Eliora took ill, and Maristh failed to rise long after she was expected. Finally, it was announced that Eliora was pregnant and just when Telinda thought she and Remarra would have to help out for awhile, Maristh was pronounced sterile for unknown reasons. The next gold flight would therefore determine the new Senior Weyrwoman of Southern Weyr.

A fair amount of betting went on. Would it be the new queen, Jeuneth, would it be Remarra's lifemate Hannenth? No, neither! After evacuating the entire Southern peninsula in a hurricane, Tiarnath took that moment to rise over the skies of Cove Hold, leading the males a merry chase. She was eventually caught by Bronze Rnayth, K'laarn's lifemate, making Telinda Senior Weyrwoman, and K'laarn Weyrleader.

The clean up at Southern took a number of days, the Weyr having sustained some fairly major damage, but as things started getting back to normal, Tiarnath laid a marvelous clutch of thirty nine eggs, including a gold, on the Hatching sands. Candidates rolled in, and during an egg touching Telinda was told by Tiarnath that once more she was pregnant.

Several days before the hatching a heatwave overtook Southern, and it was for the most part a very hot, and in some place very sunburnt, bunch of candidates that took the sands. Amongst the impressions were Auralia and Rainforest Valley Green Iesath, Miranor and Jagged Aquamarine Blue Xiuth, Marila and Ancient Forest Green Breidith, K'tor (Katolnar) and Lurid Red Landscape Bronze Albanth, Raven and Lustrous Emerald Green Eilenth, C'nor (Conor) and Sun-touched Prairie Brown Llasath, Theida and Glacial Verdant Green Ysabeth, Nareisa and Night Encroaching Granite Blue Niaeth, A'dan and Oceanic Tempestuous Green Taesyth and C'ley (Craw) and Desert Mirage Bronze Sahath. Also, the clumsy, can't stand up on her own two feet, Belira impressed Gold Feilynth.

Sometime later Telinda gave birth to a daughter, whom whey named Kayli, and for awhile things were good at Southern. No disasters, good living, all the normal things in life. Kayli and Telaarn grew older, and eventually Telinda came to the realisation that she just didn't have to the time to look after her children the way she wanted to. Hard thinking, and a lot of heart exploring, sent them to Cove, under the care of Jialyn, Lady Tris' Aunty.

Whether this was the promise of things to come, or simply a step along the way, the strains in Telinda and K'laarn's relationship began to show, the two arguing more frequently, and K'laarn sleeping out of the cottage. Weyrling graduation, for the latest class arrived, and Telinda was cut off, before she'd even had time to speak. Not happy, she asked K'laarn to leave her cottage, feeling that he wasn't respecting her, or her opinions as Senior Weyrwoman.

Things deteriorated so far that K'laarn went off and unbeknownst to Telinda, slept with Shasta, the former Weyrsecond of Southern. Telinda never knew quite what had gone wrong, or why, or if she was at fault. She never knew why Shasta was demoted from her position, and if it had anything to do with K'laarn's relationship with her. But, during a traumatic day, K'laarn broke the news to her. Not tactfully. She snapped. Heartbroken, and knowing it had all gone wrong, she reached for a knife that she never normally carried, never until that day when she was working on straps. Without knowing what she did, and thankfully not knowing how to use a knife in a fight, she attempted to stab K'laarn. For those, or whatever other reasons she missed, but terrified, she fled.

Drink! That was all she wanted to do! Drink and erase all the memories she had! N'all, K'tor and Joslyn came to find her, to bring the completely inebriated Weyrwoman home, and try and mend some of what had happened. Dancing dangerously close to the precipice, it was only the intervention of K'tor that saved her mind, or so she thought. He showed her that he understood, that he could sympathise with her feelings and actions. Slowly, she came back, and slowly she began building her life, and doing her duty once more. K'laarn continued to heal, meanwhile, in the infirmary, Telinda visiting him on occasion, when he slept.

Later, rubbing salt into the wound, K'laarn told Telinda that he'd seduced Shasta, and even went so far as to protect the brownrider in front of her. Fearing that she might be sliding back down into the darkness, Telinda fled the Weyr, heading out hunting after some wild felines that were thought to be terrorising the Weyr! Heading back, after finding, but not capturing the said felines, Telinda and K'tor's relationship steadily started to change. It was clear, to many, that the Bronzerider, and now Weyrsecond, was feeling something deeper for the Weyrwoman, and likewise it was clear that Telinda was beginning to rely heavily on him. Even after she found K'laarn and K'tor been fighting, Telinda found herself oddly distanced from her former weyrmate.

K'tor pampered her. He looked after her. He never asked for anything from her. Listened to her. Everything she needed, he was there for. They danced together at the end of weyrgames dance held at Honshu, and at Honshu's graduation they hardly spent the night apart, arms linked together for the entire ceremony. It was that night that they consummated their relationship, K'tor, as ever, asking nothing from Telinda, but giving her everything in return.

Tiarnath clutched her eggs, including a magnificent gold, and that confined Telinda to the Weyr. Desperate not to besmirch K'tor's reputation further with a pregnancy, she desperately tried to get people to take her between to ensure it wouldn't happen. But it did, and this one was here to stay! As soon as she told him, she realised that she'd been totally wrong about his reaction. He wasn't just happy he was ecstatic! And, after finding out what she was doing, and realising that she'd never ask him for anything, K'tor asked her to weyrmate.

Southern was turned into a desert, the rains gone, the sun harsh, the lake receeding and the jungle drying out to mere tinder. Then on the day of the hatching, a rainstorm beckoned, but instead of bringing much needed water, it brought lightning, and fire! Fire that threatened the Weyr, consuming everything around that had dried out over the previous months, and sending smoke through the hatching sands. And there, in the midst of the smoke, the eggs started to rock. Though the candidates, and the others on the sands, had to wear wet strips of cloth to prevent serious damage to lungs, they nevertheless stood their ground. Green Fayleath found Temari, Blue Nymath T'las (Tolas), Bronze Tremaith K'vay (Kovayir), Green Chaidyth Alianne, Gold Araneth Aithne, Brown Siolath J'ren, Blue Reanth Stella, Green Lisanth Niare and finally Bronze Enaeth found V'tali (Vitali).

Telinda, now some seven months pregnant suffered a little more than the others, and was confined to bed rest (not that she did much of it). And then, just when she thought the baby would never come, she arrived -- a bundle of screaming stubborness, with a flash of red hair and blue eyes that they named Katelin.

Peace? At Southern Weyr? You have got to be joking! Knowing that Katelin's birth beckoned the advent of Tiarnath rising again soon, Telinda warred with her emotions of what to do. She knew K'tor did not want to be Weyrleader, and worries that if he did become Weyrleader, would the same happen to K'tor and Telinda, that happened to K'laarn and Telinda? Telinda thought so, and hit upon the idea of an exchange of riders, sending K'tor north to learn about thermals and threadfighting techniques. The danger put away, Telinda thought herself and Tiarnath safe. Rnayth would win, and everything would be normal once more.

However, disaster almost struck. Nearly lost to both Southern and Telinda, Albanth barely lost the Senior flight at Telgar, the winds betraying him when he thought he had Daelyth in his grasp. Relieved, but yet again annoyed at herself for nearly loosing him, Telinda wondered whether to recall the bronzerider, but knew, that if she did so, K'tor would find out what she'd been about. So, she let him stay.

Tiarnath got began to glow, real fast, and headed towards the feeding grounds, giving noone any real notice. Albanth, threatening to between without his rider, managed to arrive just in the nick of time. Thermals battled with the other dragons, the winds treacherous in the extreme, but finally at last Albanth ensnared the gold, Rnayth just that little bit too far behind.

K'tor was struck by firehead, and never, in Telinda's mind, seemed to recover. The two split, going their own ways after K'tor became more distant, and no one was surprised when L'mir's Bronze Brielth won the next leadership flight becoming Southern's newest Weyrleader. So, for the first time in some Turns, Telinda found herself unweyrmated, and not even in love with anyone, just enjoying life to the full and enjoy it she does!

That clutch was something of a miracle. Shortly after it was laid a tsunami hit the Southern headland, bringing a great deal of water to soak everything. Luckily the sands managed to escape all but a little of it, Brielth and Tiarnath having sealed up the entrance with a sand bank. Then, just before hatching day, the sands were covered in volcanic ash: a new volcano, the cause of the tsunami, had erupted off the coast of the pensinsula, the wind bringing ash to blanket everything in grey. The clutch did hatch though, producing Gold Joleath who impressed to Jalynia, a good sign for the new leadership pair.

Things continued on their own merry way, a friendship developing slowly between Telinda and L'mir. Casual at first, it was at first nothing more than two adults sharing time and pleasure together. But, as in all things, life has a way of changing the way people think and live. Indeed, though the two fought often, they became closer and closer, sharing each other more frequently, until the point of moving in together felt as natural as speaking. Weyrmating was never formally discussed, just one day the two decided L'mir would move into Telinda's cottage, and that was that.

Fighting doesn't go away though, just because you become closer, and share more. Indeed, sometimes it brings bigger fights. Although Brielth continued to win Tiarnath's flights, and the two dragons becoming near impossible to separate, their riders had other ideas and plans. After trying to redecorate Telinda's cottage with his things, L'mir found that his beloved quilt had been repaired and washed. That caused a rift to open, and L'mir moved out. First staying with V'tali, then other riders, before he could toss K'run out of his former home. The fighting got worse. And worse. And yet worse. L'mir redecorated the office. Telinda moved out of the office. Telinda sent people to clean out L'mir's cottage. Childish? These two? Quite possibly.

L'mir stormed over to Telinda's, demanding to know what right she had to interfere with the way he wished to live. Telinda fought back. And then, somehow they ended up in bed together. Hrm. Not quite what they'd expected. The next morning, they separated, L'mir off for wing duties before Telinda woke, and then each avoiding the other once more. Not sure where things would take them next.

Shortly after, Telinda and Tiarnath were hurt when coming out of *between* they hit another tangle of thread. Tiarnath's shoulder and Telinda's hip were scored, both having to have stitches and both confined: Telinda to the infirmary, and Tiaranth to the ground. Where things will go next, who knows!
