Southern Weyr sense that Firenth gigglesnorts
Tiarnath> D'val blinks in the light and looks to Gyraneth, "You can't
be hungry again. You ate only two days ago." Tiarnath> Pendrath whuffs in curiosity, but not too close to the nag,
for fear that his gentle breath will send it tumbling Tiarnath> Shay nods in confirmation, "And the fastest one in all
of pern." Dragon> Pendrath bespoke Southern Weyr with << It is too scrawny
to try to eat. >> Tiarnath> Tiarnath cracks open an eyelid, whirling facets studying those
around her with curiosity now that she has been fully woken. A croon emanates
deep within as she swings her head to greet the other dragons. Dragon> Gyraneth bespoke Southern Weyr with << That thing? I was
thinking more of a nice flock of fat sheep over near Honshu. >> Dragon> Tiarnath senses that Firenth whuffles. <<Look at that scrawny
runner. Tiarnath> Eliora beams at R'lien, just knowing he's going to be thrilled
with her gift, "Don't worry about how much she cost, it really wasn't
as much as you'd expect for such a champion." Tiarnath> Haven sits on a rock, biting her lip and watching R'lien's face You walk over to the lakeside meadow. Lakeside Meadow - Southern Weyr(#332RJ$) Tiarnath> Echo falls again, tears streaming down her face, "Oh Shells....I...fell...again....."
she crawls behind the rock, shoulders shaking from laughter. Tiarnath> D'val grabs a one-handed hold of Gyraneth's riding straps and
vaults to his lifemate's shoulders. Tiarnath> Shay looks around wondering if she better make a break for it
before anyone talks Eliora out of it. Tiarnath> Gyraneth ambles toward the lakeside meadow. Gyraneth ambles across from the landing field. Gyraneth ambles toward White Sands Beach. Tiarnath> Eliora looks over at Echo and Haven and grins, seeing they are
thunderstruck by having a great runner like Betty at the weyr. Tiarnath> Eliora goes to brush a stray piece of grass off Betty' Tiarnath> Eliora brushes a stray piece of grass off Betty's side and frowns
at her hand as a bunch of hair comes off, hmmm, "She must be shedding." Tiarnath> Lightening Betty stumbles to the right, nearly sprawling over
but lucky Shay is standing next to her and rights the nag before any damage
is done. Tiarnath> Shay grins, "Well it is hot under the southern sun." Tiarnath> Eliora says to Shay, "I don't have any firelizard eggs
yet, but when Rapunzel clutches you can have first pick." she brushes
Betty again, more hair falls to the ground. Tiarnath> Eliora says "I never realized runners shed so much, but
I guess less hair makes them faster?" Tiarnath> R'lien's face freezes for a moment then he says, "For me?"
The suprized incredulity in his voice is either shock or amazed joy. Tiarnath> Shay backs away, "Sure think Eli. We'll settle payment
later. Thanks and see ya all real soon." she makes a run for it. Tiarnath> Echo makes a strange noise. Tiarnath> Shay walks toward the lakeside meadow. Shay walks over from the landing field. Shay runs by really fast Shay strides over to White Sands Beach. Tiarnath> Haven starts coughing, very very hard, trying not to laugh Tiarnath> Eliora smiles at R'lien and nods her head, "Yes! Isn't
she amazing?" Tiarnath> Echo clears her throat, wiping away a tear, "That...sure..is
a fine......." fine what? The think looks like a bone with patches of
hair, "..runner y'got there." choking out the words. Tiarnath> R'lien gets a goofy smile on his face, "She's ... she's
something else." Tiarnath> Eliora smiles broadly and gives R'lien a hug, "I saw her
and I thought she'd be just the thing for you." Tiarnath> Haven continues to cough, now shivering with refrained giggles. Shay slides down off the green's back having come from the Plateau with the
returning rider. Tiarnath> R'lien turns his attention to Eliora, much easier to smile brightly
when looking at her. He hugs her back tightly, "I've never had a runner
like her before, that's fer certain." Tiarnath> R'lien smiles and kisses Eliora, "It's tha most special
turnday present I've ever gotten." Tiarnath> Eliora beams, and then scratches a flea off her arm that jumped
from the horse. "I'm glad! It's hard to think ofsomething to give you."
she returns the kiss and looks around, "And everyone can take her for
a ride!" Tiarnath> Eliora smacks another flea, this time on her leg. Then another
on her arm..and then suddenly she's scratching everywhere. Tiarnath> R'lien smiles, "Tha's a wonderful idea. I runner like this
I couldn' keep just for myself, I should keep her in tha stables for anyone
that wants to can ride her." He smiles even brighter at the possible
solution. Tiarnath> Haven coughs again. "Ride?" Tiarnath> Haven calls out, "Only after R'lien takes her for a ride
first" Tiarnath> Eliora smacks another flea, "Yes, everyone...can *smack*
ride her.." she starts to scratch at her arm and then runs for the lake,
"Aeeiiii!" Eliora strides over from the landing field. Eliora runs through, scratching and headed for the lake. Eliora strides over to White Sands Beach. Tiarnath> R'lien pauses for a moment, then runs after Eliora. R'lien strides over from the landing field. R'lien has arrived. R'lien walks toward White Sands Beach. You head north into the landing field, full of dragons. Haven lifts an eyebrow and steps near the nag. She jumps back, almost as
though she's touched an ember. "Sharding thing is covered in bugs!" Telinda pokes her finger back to Eliora and R'lien, "Whats up with.."
she breaks off, "What in the name of Faranth's private parts is that?"
she asks, pointing at the nag Haven sits down and starts laughing, finally, "E... Eli bought it for
R'lien for his turn day. She thought it was a championship runner!" D'val enters from the lush lakeside meadow. Telinda shakes her head, flickering an amused glance at the Weyrsecond, "She
did? Oh dear, poor Eli." She grins, "I think even the dragons might
turn up their snouts at that one." Haven nods "Pendrath thinks he'll get a bone stuck in his teeth if he
tried to eat it." She walks around the nag, debating the best way to
wash it without knocking it to the ground. D'val walks toward the Weyrhall. Telinda hrms thoughtfully, "Well, you could try getting it herded down
to the lake and washed off. Failing that, dump a bucket of redwort over it." Haven sighs softly "I don't want to polluted the lake with that thing."
She goes around and finds a bucket, filling it with water from a well Echo wanders out behind the rock, "How in Faranth's name d'those two
think anyone can ride that thing!?" Telinda shakes her head, "Damn thing's legs would sprawl, I'm guessing." Haven grins "R'lien's just trying to be nice to Eli. She'll figure it
out soon enough." From a distance, she tosses the water onto the nag,
who takes a stumble step, but remains standing Echo howls with laughter. Echo giggles some more, wiping an errant tear, "Poor Eli." is all
she says. Haven refills the bucket and sloshes down the nag's other side. "Maybe
you're right tel. Soak her down with redwort before I get closer" Telinda grins, "It'll kill the sharding things off, that's for certain,
nothing much lives through redwort. Want me to get you some?" she asks. Echo just shakes her head, "How did Eli get involved with that beastcraft
apprentice?" Haven nods to Tel, "If you would." Telinda smiles and nods, moving into the weyr proper. Some moments later
she returns with a large container full of something and gestures to Haven's
bucket, "Was told we'd need to dilute it, but this should be enough"
she remarks. R'lien enters from the lush lakeside meadow. Echo just smiles at R'lien R'lien comes back wearing just his shorts and dripping wet. Haven nods and lets Tel pour some of the redwort in before filling the bucket
the rest of the way with R'lien. "Bugs bite her bad?" Telinda lets some of the redwort into the bucket, giving it a decent amount
but not so much as to delete all her supply and stands back, "I hope
they don't just hop off" she remarks and then grins, "The Healers
said they should be killed though." Echo blinks, "I just hope the redwort don't kill the nag." Haven nods and starts to slowly pour the redwort on the nags back, letting
it ooze down her side. "Someone find a brush? I'm not touching her" Telinda wrinkles her nose and glances to Echo. Neither is she! Echo freezes in her footsteps. Haven looks about. "A long handled brush, preferably" Telinda ahhs, that's a bit safer! She grins sheepishly and wanders towards
the stable entrance and lifts a broom, not the most appropriate of things,
but it has a long handle and is brush like. "This do?" she asks Haven nods. "Longer the better." She starts to wipe the broom bristles
across the nags side to spread the redwort about, and the toothless creature
nearly falls over. Telinda laughs, "Maybe we need to find her a prop?" she asks, "though
she needs feeding more than anything." Haven sighs. "Wonder if she can eat anything? I guess we can always
give her cooked oats." She continues the brushing, much lighter now.
"Pour another bucketfull, someone?" Telinda turns towards her fellow weyrling, "Give me a hand?" she
asks with a smile Echo peers at the nag, "She doesn't look so good." Echo backs away, scrunching up her nose as she gets a whiff of the beast. Haven makes a face, trying really hard to stay as close to the filthy thing
as she is. And this is a woman that changes a baby's diapers several times
a day. Echo looks around, "Where's the bucket Tel?" Telinda is keeping well away from that bone-on-legs. Yep, with her state
lately she's likely to get kicked or something worse -- fleas! Eww. She smiles
to Echo and gestures, "Here, let me pour some more of this redwort into
the bucket, hopefully it'll help and not kill the poor beast, not like it
looks that sturdy now!" Echo shivers, no longer laughing, "What in Faranth's name was Eliora
thinking. That shay must be a fast talker." she starts to help Telinda
with the redwort. Haven grins. "Eli's too trustworthy. Doesn't know a thing about runners." Echo giggles, "Obviusly not." she gets knocked down by the smell
of the thing when she gets to close. Telinda snorts, "Neither do I, really." She chuckles, "She
should've asked Maristh, she'd have known this wasn't any good I think!"
Smiling her thanks at Echo, she hefts the bucket towards the poor runner and
arches an eyebrow at Haven, "On the back again?" Haven just makes faces "Hurry up with that before I get sick!" Haven nods "Where ever - just pour!" Echo covers her mouth gagging, "Tel, HURRY!" crawling away. Telinda giggles and does as instructed, pouring the redwort solution over
the runner's back in a steady trickle but holding her head away from the runner.
Barely breathing and only then taking a deep inhalation through her mouth,
nose wrinkling. Echo dares to look back at the old nag covered in redwort now, "Think
that did the trick?" Haven starts rubbing the broom again, spreading it all over the skin. You
can almost hear all the fleas landing on the ground with tiny *thuds* Echo stands brushing her tunic and pants off. She looks around for some long
stick useful for scrubbing. She looks at it, "Think it'll kill her if
I use this thing?" Haven steps back finally and observes the beast, hoping beyond hope that
she doesn't die here and now Telinda shakes her head, still really unable to believe such a thing is still
alive. Turning to face Echo, she shrugs, "Like it can do anymore harm,
right?!" Haven nods "I think it'll rip her skin off." She holds out the
broom she's been using. "Try your luck." Haven shakes her head. "I think I can see that a trip to the beastcraft
hall is in order. Maybe I can find a healthy runner with the same markings,
and we can switch them. Tell Eli we nursed it back to health or something." Telinda frowns, furrows lining her forehead, "I think we might be able
to nurse it back to health Haven. How hard can it be?" Haven shrugs. "I don't think it's going to live much longer, nursed
or not. My uncle had several runners. Would have put this one 'out to pasture'
a long time ago." Haven Sighs. "If she can believe this is Pern's faster runner, I'm sure
she'll buy into a switched runner. Can't be hard to find one that color."
Well, that color without the redwort stains on it. Eliora enters from the lush lakeside meadow. Haven nods to R'lien and Eliora. The nag is a nice shade of blotched red
now. Telinda shrugs and then quietens at the Weyrleaders enter. R'lien gives a wave, "Killin' the bugs?" Echo giggles as she sees Eliora. She starts scrubbing the thing down with
a stick, tearing off a chunk of s,kin. Eliora comes in, her hair wet, her skin pink from scrubbing and she still
scratches her arms, "I can still feel them..poor Betty. I bet some wild
animal gave her fleas." Haven eeps and nods. "Uh... we took the liberty of washing her down
in redwort. I don't know how she picked up those nasty bugs, running as fast
as she did all the way here." Eliora looks at 'Lightening Betty' and sighs, "I hope Shay doesn't take
her back or something because of this." she looks concerned. Telinda smiles at Eliora, "I think we're safe on that one." Haven shakes her head. "Oh, not unless you want to back out of the deal,
Eli. I mean, I'd be pretty upset if someone brought me a runner full of fleas.
I'm sure Shay will understand." Eliora looks relieved, "That's good...I was hoping she didn't leave
because she was upset." she looks around, hoping the fleas weren't picked
up at the weyr. Haven looks at the nag, hoping that the redwort doesn't kill the thing Haven nods to Eli. "Did you get bitten too much?" Eliora says "Yeah, I think I have bites everywhere!" Telinda nods, "You might want to get some of that light numbweed the
Healers use for the 'pox the little ones sometimes get. It might elleviate
the itch!" Eliora nods her head, "That's a good idea.." she heads to the infirmary. Eliora walks toward the Weyrhall. Haven whews softly and looks at R'lien. "What in Faranth's name are
we going to do about this thing?" She looks over the nag again, hoping
it hasn't died in the last 5 minutes R'lien hmmms, "I dunno... try to find a decent runner that looks like
her?" Haven nods "I'll head out to the Beastcraft hall. Shouldn't be hard,
she's just one color." Telinda shakes her head, "We've still got the problem of this one being
around though. Unless you have a solution?" Haven chuckles softly. "Trust me, Tel. This thing ain't gonna be round
long." R'lien sighs, then puts a smile back on, "She ment only tha best. Well,
let's move her to one of the far pastures, so she has 'room to run' R'lien goes to get some numbweed himself. R'lien walks toward the Weyrhall. Haven nods and takes the horses halter in her hand. "Comon, Betty."
But the horse stands in place. Telinda wrinkles her nose as she looks over the beast, "Its not even
alive as it was a moment ago" she remarks, "Nothings hopping anymore." Haven nods "Go get a bucket of oats. Maybe we can get it to follow its
stomach." Telinda laughs. Oh yeah, like that'll work. Its likely not going to be able
to smell either! Nevertheless, she wanders over towards the stables, returning
some moments later with a bucket of oats, "I had to do some fast talking
to the stable master. He was wondering why we were feeding his runners and
not him. I think I'd explained though." Haven nods and puts the bucket down. Slowly, Betty lowers her snout into
it and munches ever so slowly. "If I can find a horse in the next few
days, I'm sure we can get it here in two sevendays. Hope this thing lives
that long."
