Ierne Island is located almost due south of Piemur's Volcano, approximately running from 37 deg. S latitude to approximately 50 deg S latitude. Also due north from the island, in the Northern hemisphere, are such places as the Fort area, Southern Bowl, and High Reaches Weyr.
The island itself is hilly, with a former active volcano that serves as the home of the Weyr itself. Deep woodlands surround the hills, and three quarters of the island is located in the Great Bay, where there are salt-water harbors. The Weyr is located toward the southern tip of the island, where the fresh water from an unnamed river, while Uppsala Hold is located in the hills in the middle of the island. Great Bay Hold is located on the mainland to the northeast of the Weyr.
